Highlights of the Month

The most robust signal is the emergence of data on comparable functional activity across three batches of adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cell exosomes produced under Good Manufacturing Practice conditions, combined with work on bioreactor scale-up and metabolic monitoring of cell cultures via nuclear magnetic resonance. Together, these materials address one of the field’s central barriers: reproducible manufacturing of a product with measurable biological activity [1–3].

  • Science: Active areas include tissue regeneration, tumor biology, and liquid biopsy, though most results come from cell and animal models or are presented in review articles.
  • Clinic: No compelling new data from human interventional trials were found in the verified sample for July. Scientific activity is therefore not yet translating into changes in standard of care.
  • Technology: The link between “bioreactor – analytical process control – functional activity assay” is strengthening. This matters more than the number of new cargo or target variants.
  • Regulation: No significant new regulatory decisions on exosome products were found in the July dataset. The baseline risk remains unchanged: the absence of unified classification, activity metrics, and proven clinical efficacy [11].
